We cordially invite you to a workshop as part of our WWTF-funded HPVienna project. We would like to present the current progress of the project and initiate a discussion on the availability of data.

15.September 2025, 9:00 – 13:00
Arnold-Schmidt-Raum, Gußhausstraße 27-29, 1040 Wien

HPV vaccination is currently a hot topic. As part of the WWTF-funded HPVienna project in the WWTF Call Environmental Systems Research - Urban Environments, we are taking a close look at the current HPV situation in Austria, and specifically in Vienna. An overview of all activities can be found at https://hpvienna.at/en.

One of the sub-goals of the HPVienna project is to create a model that depicts the spread of HPV in Vienna. Ultimately, we also want to calculate scenarios to illustrate the impact of various measures (e.g. increasing vaccination coverage, higher adherence to screenings, etc.). The project is being carried out by an interdisciplinary team from TU Wien, Medical University of Vienna and the University of Vienna.

The team at the University of Vienna led by Lisa Lehner is conducting a study among people without insurance to examine the HPV situation in this population group in more detail (vaccination status, HPV tests, etc.). The results of this study will be incorporated into the model and this population group will be compared with the general situation in Vienna.

The Medical University of Vienna is represented by Andreas Bergthaler and his team. They will carry out HPV whole genome sequencing of samples obtained from the above-mentioned population group and install a wastewater monitoring system in order to make more general statements about the prevalence of HPV and the distribution of the different types, which will ultimately also be incorporated into the model.

The team at TU Wien led by Niki Popper will ultimately use the collected data and integrate it into a simulation model that will simulate the HPV situation in Vienna and, based on this, possible scenarios as a first step towards an Austria-wide model.

As a first milestone, we have now compiled a data report that summarises which data is required for our model and which possible sources are available for this. We would now like to present this report and cordially invite you to a workshop. On the one hand, the aim is to present the project and its current progress; on the other hand, the question arises as to which real data can and should be included in the model. To this end, we would like to invite you to a discussion about existing and available data.

Agenda

  • From 9:00 - Welcome and introduction
    • Presentation of the HPVienna project, including sub-projects
    • Presentation of the data report and possible data sources * Best practice projects on data acquisition and data integration for simulation models
    • Joint analysis of potential data sources
    • Feedback round on stakeholder-based issues – what incentives are needed to encourage collaboration?
    • Discussion
  • From 12:00 - Networking and lunch with snacks and drinks.
We look forward to your participation. Please register by 8.9.2025 to melanie.zechmeister@tuwien.ac.at. Note that the workshop will be held in German.
