Tobias Fragner
Tobi is a trained nurse and public health researcher with experience in mental healthcare and working with marginalized communities. Having spent several years working with emerging adults/transitional age youth at a clinic in Vienna, Austria, Tobi gained firsthand insights into the challenges of the Austrian (mental) healthcare system. After finishing his master’s degree in health technologies, he was driven by a desire to address systemic issues affecting healthcare acces and delivery for underserved and neglected populations, and thus, began pursuing a PhD in Public Health at the Medical University of Vienna in 2021. His PhD project, as part of a larger EU-funded initiative, centered on improving cancer prevention for people experiencing homelessness in Europe. Today, Tobi’s research is dedicated to advancing the health and care of disenfranchized communities, with a particular focus on the inclusion of people from these communities as co-researchers. Using participatory approaches as a means of empowerment, he strives to co-create interventions that are not only effective but also reflect the lived experiences and needs of the individuals they are intended to serve. Outside of his academic and professional pursuits, Tobi likes to spend time with his family, make music with friends, and read books/listen to audiobooks.
